President makes campaign stop in Waterloo

WATERLOO - President Barack Obama recalled one of his original official campaign appearances five years ago after the then-junior senator from Illinois announced his candidacy for his current job in Springfield, Ill.

?Some of you may remember that one of the first stops after I announced for the presidency was right here in Waterloo,? Obama said to cheers from approximately 1,800 fans and supporters at the RiverLoop Amphitheater along the Cedar River behind the Waterloo Center for the Arts.

The president made his fifth of seven campaign stops in a three-day bus tour of Iowa, and the third of the day Tuesday, as he seeks his second term. He made campaign stops in Council Bluffs and Boone on Monday, and then visited Oskaloosa and Marshalltown earlier Tuesday before wrapping up the tour Wednesday in Dubuque and Davenport with First Lady Michelle Obama.
