The University of Massachusetts Boston seeks a dynamic academic leader to serve as Associate Provost and Director of the Office of International and Transnational Affairs, beginning in early May 2013.

The ideal candidate for the Associate Provost/Director position will bring vision, creativity, energy, and experience to a collaborative environment that pursues a goal of fostering transdisciplinary, transnational, and transcultural research, teaching, and service. The Associate Provost/Director will represent UMass Boston?s interests in international affairs both on and off campus. The successful candidate will be familiar with the range of internationalization activities in which institutions of higher education are engaged, and be able to provide creative leadership for UMass Boston?s efforts in this area.
The Associate Provost/Director will be responsible for the work of the Office of International and Transnational Affairs, facilitating the development of academic and research programs with international foci, increasing the availability of study abroad programs for both students and faculty, developing and implementing administrative processes that support international students and visiting scholars, and collaborating with members of the university community and external partners to enrich the international and transnational activities of the university. The Associate Provost/Director will report to the Provost.
Requirements:
- Earned doctorate or other terminal degree (faculty appointment possible)
- Fluency in English and at least one other language
- Experience in fostering international initiatives in a higher education setting
- Excellent leadership, administrative, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Commitment to collaborative decision-making
- Record of success working within diverse learning environments
- Ability to raise revenue through grants, contracts, and philanthropic contributions
